Ford Motor will announce its second-quarter results on Tuesday evening, and expectations are high ahead of the report.

Wall Street expects Ford to post a second-quarter operating profit of $2.1 billion on sales of $47.2 billion. This would match last year’s operating profit, even though sales were higher at $50.2 billion a year ago.

An updated full-year guidance figure will accompany the results. In April, Ford said it expected 2026 operating profit of $8.5 billion to $10.5 billion, up from a prior range of $8 billion to $10 billion. That followed a 2025 operating profit of $6.8 billion, down from $10.2 billion in 2024, as tariffs cut roughly $2 billion from profit and a fire at aluminum supplier Novelis added another $2 billion hit.

Despite the improved guidance in April, Ford shares fell 1.3% following that report, as investors remained concerned about elevated oil prices and cost inflation. Sentiment has since improved somewhat, with the stock climbing meaningfully from its levels immediately after the first-quarter earnings report.

The broader outlook for U.S. automakers looks reasonably solid. General Motors raised its full-year financial forecast last week alongside its own second-quarter results. Still, improving sentiment and a higher share price have raised the bar for Ford heading into Tuesday’s report.

RBC believes the recent decision not to renew the United States-Mexico-Canada trade agreement, which reopens it to renegotiation, could weigh on Ford shares later this year. That topic may come up on the earnings call, along with updates on Ford’s universal EV platform, an initiative designed to lower production costs and help the company turn a profit on electric vehicles. Sales tied to that platform aren’t expected to begin until around 2027.

Ford’s EV business lost about $800 million in the first quarter alone and roughly $4.8 billion for all of 2025.

Shares rose slightly in early trading Tuesday, outperforming the S&P 500’s modest decline while tracking a gain in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
